Spring colours, and Halston

I love the colour of this dress, and this tie-dye jump suit! These are two pieces from the Halston Heritage line, designs reinvented from the Halston archives. Whilst this is pure Studio 54 chic, and effortlessly glam and elegant, it is the use of vibrant colours that I love most! The bags are great too, their wide piping, rounded metal fittings, and piped handles, they evoke an era (and Halston's genius) that for many years I could only contemplate in this Halston book

In awe at Chloe..

This week has been so hectic that i could only now have a quick look at the autumn/winter collections. The first to catch my eyes was the Chloe show scheduled last Tuesday. I'm in awe! I love the warm beiges with the mustard shoes, the bow waisted trousers, the slouchy trousers, the simple cut and extra ease of the garments, the models' smooth hair and flawless skin, the squeaky clean look! It reminds me a bit of the early 1980s, the softer look emulated by Brooke Shields or Marot and Mariel Hemingway.

Emma Ware Jewellery

I've recently discovered Emma Ware's jewellery. She is a talented designer who used reclaimed materials, such as these charming toy lambs. I'm especially fond of her eclectic collection.
Her new pieces are edgier and she is taking part to the Ethical Fashion night at the William Morris Gallery this Thursday. I'm looking forward to meeting her and seeing her new collection!

Ethical Fashion?

I'm taking part to an ethical fashion night next Thursday at the William Morris Gallery, and whilst I'm looking forward to this event, I've come to realise that I'm not quite sure what "ethical fashion" means... and I have been worrying that my products are not ethical enough. Peeking at the V&A website for information, ethical covers a wide range of  issues such as working conditions, fair trade, sustainable production, environment preservation and animal welfare.
Cotton culture accounts for 22.5% of the use of the world's insecticides and 10% of persticides, as well as consequent environmental damages. For instance the Aral Sea has shrunk to just 15% of its fromer volume, thanks to cotton production and dying (V&A and Ethical Fashion Forum). These figures are really shocking, and I'm glad that I use mostly upcycled vintage fabrics or organic cotton sateen printed to my own design. But with leather, it is more difficult to establish provenance or animal welfare. So I'm working on some new accessories made from all my scrap bits, but is this ethical enough?
It is also shocking that in the UK alone 1 million tonnes of clothing are thrown to landfill sites. On the plus side, my designs are well-made, one-of-a-kind pieces, created as modern heirlooms.

First Aid Kit..

I am going to Stockholm for a long weekend at the end of March.. In the meantime I have been listing to First Aid Kit, I'm very taken by their song "You're Not Coming Home Tonight"! It's a little retro and folky , and sounds like really good old fashioned americana and I reallty like it!
The teenage sisters're really stylish too, with these high waisted denim jeans that remind me of Lauren Huttoon in her 70s heydays. Check the video below! It's so gimmick free, just music and shoot in the woods.
